“Oil Pulling” Detox Basics

“Oil pulling can be very beneficial to many people for many different health issues
& detoxing many types of toxins in the body”

The best time for pulling is before having any food or drink first thing in the morning. Rinse your mouth with water & put 1 to 2 teaspoon of virgin coconut oil in the mouth. This depends on the size of your mouth.

Too much or too little oil will make it hard to swish so with practice you will determine the right amount.
Push, pull, the oil throughout your teeth & throughout every surface of your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes
(build up to this if you must).
Do not gargle!
Use this time to shower, dress, prepare a green juice, breakfast, etc.
If you accidentally swallow some, don’t worry, this only happens when you first start.

After 20 minutes (if you don’t have 20 minutes, 4 minutes is way better than nothing!), spit out either in the trash, toilet or better the garden, brush your teeth as usual & you may follow with big glass of water.
If you choose to swish on your way to work or gym, take a plastic bag or paper cup to spit the used oil.
Rinse mouth with water & brush as usual.
You may experience mucus, this is your body detoxing. Pay attention to all the changes.

You may also experience what is called “healing crises”. This is your immune system working out the toxins so you may have sinus discharge, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin outbreaks, aches & pains, headaches, fever, restlessness, fatigue.

It is believed that the “oil swishing” activates enzymes that will pull toxins out of the blood.

All this good, it’s your body detoxing. This will pass & you will actually feel exhilarated.

Your teeth will be whiter, stronger, gums more healthy, skin will clear up.

Many feel their sinuses opening up & clearing. You will also be less likely to catch every cold passed around those winter months and if you do, it will be less severe.
You can oil pull any time of the day.

The best time is in the morning as this is when you have the most bacteria & toxins in your mouth.
Once you have become familiar with oil pulling & feel comfortable, you can do it any time.
Bacteria population in your mouth is at its highest level just before meals & at its lowest just after.

When you eat, much of the bacteria are consumed & swallowed with your food.

You remove more bacteria if you pull before eating. If you have an active infection in your mouth or another serious health problem, you can oil pull two, three or more times a day to speed healing process.
Oil pulling is safe during pregnancy & for nursing Mothers.
