Kombucha – The Perfect Drink to Clean your Organism.

Kombucha is the name of a lichen, which ferments the mysterious drink, made of a blend of black and green teas and sugar. The knowledge of the healing power of this drink is ancient; the drink was already in use around 2,000 years ago in China and Tibet. But only in 1913, it was introduced by Russia to the rest of Europe, then fell into oblivion and was rediscovered in World War II by the German physician Dr. Rudolf Sklenar. He had met Kombucha during the war by Russian farmers and utilized it later in Germany successfully, mainly in metabolic diseases, rheumatism, gout, gastrointestinal disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Kombucha is produced by the fermentation of sweetened tea and Kombucha lichen – a jellyfish-like, gelatinous community of acetic acid bacteria and yeast. Within days, a sparkling, refreshing drink arises from this rather unappetizing sounding connection.

How does Kombucha work?

Let’s have a small glimpse into the chemistry:
First the yeast converts a portion of the dissolved sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide, and the other part of the sugar is converted to cellulose.
The result: the tea fungus grows, and the bacteria ferment the alcohol to acetic acid.

The effectiveness of Kombucha in purification and the positive influence of digestion is supported by studies, as well as the improvement of athletic performance and overall well being.

It contains natural carbonic acid and has reportedly a variety of healing properties, such as:
